A-bomb survivors held a sit-in on New Year's Day at Peace Park in Nagasaki City, calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons and wishing for peace in Ukraine.

A total of 65 people, including A-bomb survivors and citizens, participated in the sit-in at Peace Park in Nagasaki.



At the beginning, Koichi Kawano, chairman of the Nagasaki Prefectural Peace Movement Center Atomic Bomb Survivors Liaison Council, said, "We absolutely will not allow Russia to recklessly invade Ukraine and use nuclear weapons. I pray that peace will come to Ukraine as soon as possible." said hello.



Afterwards, the participants each held up a piece of paper with the word "Peace" written on it, and offered a moment of silence at 11:02 am, when the atomic bomb exploded in Nagasaki on August 9, 1945.

A-bomb survivor Shinji Hamada said, "People around the world must raise their voices against barbaric acts such as the invasion of Ukraine."



In addition, Ms. Yuka Miyazaki, a high school student peace ambassador, said, "For the sake of our future, I would like to continue disseminating the reality of the atomic bomb so that nuclear weapons will not be used."
