, all but one for her work on ABC.

She retired from television after leaving the daytime show 'The View' in 2014, which she launched in 1997.

Walters became the first woman to host an evening newscast in the United States when she joined the 'ABC Evening News' in 1976, drawing a then-record salary

of $1 million a year

.

"How proud I feel today when I see all the young women who are making and reporting the news," she said in her last appearance on 'The View'.

"If I did something to help make that happen, that will be my legacy," she added.
