While the first half of December 2022 was marked by cold spells and the arrival of the first snowfalls, the second half shows particularly mild temperatures compared to seasonal norms.

Météo-France expects the New Year to be “the mildest ever observed nationwide,” reports

On December 31, New Year's Eve, Météo-France forecasts up to 16°C in the northern half of the country and up to 20°C in the south: 15°C in Lille, 16°C in Paris, 13°C in Rennes or 19°C in Tarbes for New Year's Eve.

So many temperatures never before seen from the point of view of the archives of Météo-France, which date back to 1947.

New Year's Eve is announced once again in a rare sweetness.

2022, the hottest year ever recorded in France

With an average of 11.3°C in France on December 25 (+5.5°C compared to normal), Christmas 2022 has already been the second warmest Christmas on record, just behind that of 1997. In some cities such as Biarritz, Strasbourg or Clermont-Ferrand, the deviations from seasonal norms were even more than 9°C.

This particularly mild end of December thus concludes 2022, the hottest year ever recorded in France.

“All the months of the year were warmer than normal, with the exception of January and April,” specifies Météo France in its annual report.

This situation is unfortunately linked to the effects of climate change, the effects of which will continue to be felt more and more each year.

"Very hot in the current climate, the year 2022 will become 'normal' in the middle of the 21st century", concludes Météo-France.
