Currently in the midst of promoting
Avatar: The Way of the Water
, James Cameron admitted that his saga didn't leave him time to realize the other movie ideas that popped into his mind.
So much so that he speaks of "mourning" for these achievements that will never see the light of day.
This is what he replied to
Empire
magazine, which asked him if he regretted devoting himself only to
Avatar
to the detriment of the rest.
And his opinion is divided.
"First, the world of
Avatar
is so vast that I can tell most of the stories I want to tell in it and try many stylistic techniques that I hope to explore," he began.
“And second, yes… Our time as artists is limited.
I will always be in mourning for some stories that I can't do.
»
Happy anyway
Nevertheless, this "mourning" is mitigated thanks to his colleagues.
James Cameron has indeed added that he felt “great satisfaction when other directors want to explore some of [his] ideas”.
The filmmaker notably cited Kathryn Bigelow, who directed
Strange Days
, and Robert Rodriguez, who was behind the camera for
Alita: Battle Angel
, two films for which he wrote or co-wrote the screenplay.
James Cameron is indeed busy, since
Avatar 3
is already in post-production and should be released on December 20, 2024. Parts of the fourth installment have already been filmed.
This work frenzy is paying off.
James Cameron is currently triumphing with
Avatar: The Way of the Water
, which in just 14 days has grossed over a billion dollars at the box office.
