The Puy-de-Dôme prefecture published a press release on Tuesday concerning the meeting of the Loup departmental committee organized on December 12.

She described as “sporadic” the presence of members of the species observed on her territory.

The local authorities, however, made it clear that they did not consider that the wolves were settled in the department.

Faced with the "recordings of signs of the presence of the species" mentioned in the press release relayed by France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, a compensation scheme was triggered for the injured breeders.

A funding program for measures to prevent wolf attacks is also available.

It allows the breeders of Puy-de-Dôme to be helped in the purchase and care of dogs that can protect the herds by scaring away the wolves.

In 2023, this grant will cover 80% of the cost of purchases and care and 100% of the cost of supervising breeders in the setting up of dogs.

The departmental Wolf committee met in the continuity of the national action plan on the wolf 2018-2023.
