The prefecture of Dordogne has announced that it has taken the decision to ban firecrackers and fireworks during the period surrounding New Year's Eve. The measure took effect this Thursday morning and will remain in force until January 2, at 8 hours.
The prefectural decree spotted by France Bleu Périgord is dated this Monday but was published this Wednesday.

It specifically states that it is illegal to sell, transport, transfer or use “fireworks” of any category, “pyrotechnic articles”, firecrackers and rockets.
It is also forbidden to have these items on you.
The decree applies to public roads, public spaces and “places of large gatherings of people”.
The measure also makes it illegal to launch these projectiles in the direction of public places.
Offenders are liable to prosecution, said the prefect.
However, an exception is provided.
It concerns professionals organizing a pyrotechnic show for a local authority or other customers.
Those concerned must nevertheless hold a certificate of qualification.
