For the north, west and initially also the middle of the country, the German weather service (DWD) predicts a densely cloudy sky and occasional rain on Wednesday.

In contrast, it is expected to remain largely dry in the south and south-east.

Overall, the meteorologists expect unusually mild maximum temperatures of eleven to 20 degrees.

In the mountains and by the sea it will be windy with gusts of wind, and even severe gusts of wind are expected on higher mountain peaks.

At night it should remain rainy in the north and west, temperatures between twelve and eight degrees are expected.

In the rest of the country, partly clear skies are expected, where temperatures drop to eight to two degrees.

T-shirt weather in Baden-Württemberg

In Baden-Württemberg, the turn of the year can be celebrated without a winter coat.

Because according to the forecasts of the DWD, several high values, some of which are decades old, are shaking.

"In Stuttgart it could well be 18, actually maybe 19 degrees warm next Saturday," said a DWD weather expert on Wednesday morning.

"On the Rhine and at the foot of the Black Forest, 20 degrees are also possible." In the night of January 1, the weather service for Stuttgart expects around eleven degrees.

"These are temperatures that we don't normally have in December, of course," said DWD meteorologist Andreas Pfaffenzeller.

"In some places we will definitely break the previous daily records."

The highest values measured nationwide for a New Year's Eve are also well below the latest forecasts for the coming Saturday.

According to the DWD, it was 17 degrees in Müllheim in the southern Black Forest in 1961, and 14.4 degrees were measured in Stuttgart in 2017.

The December record for the southwest, on the other hand, can hardly be broken: According to the DWD, it was also 24 degrees warm in the Müllheim on December 16, 1989.

The DWD expects very good conditions for the New Year's Eve fireworks.

In the last night of the year it will not rain in Baden-Württemberg and certainly not snow, it was said.

"We will also have little risk of fog, dry air, light winds from the southwest, and the sky will often be clear," said the service meteorologist responsible for the forecasts.

However, this does not apply to the highs.

Strong to stormy gusts are expected, especially in the mountains, and even severe gusts of wind on the Feldberg.

Bavaria has a spring-like start to the new year

In Bavaria it could also get up to 20 degrees warm.

According to the DWD on Wednesday, up to 20 degrees in the foothills of the Alps and up to 17 degrees in Lower Franconia are possible on Saturday.

After mild temperatures at Christmas, spring will continue, albeit with a smaller cold snap on Wednesday and on Thursday night.

According to the DWD, there should still be isolated frost and smoothness, especially in south-eastern parts of Bavaria.

Otherwise, the meteorologists expected temperatures of up to eleven degrees and stormy gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour at higher altitudes on Wednesday, as well as isolated heavy gusts of wind of up to 90 kilometers per hour on Thursday night.
