The year had barely begun when Will Smith ear-filed comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars.

It was prompted by a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith's bald head, which is caused by the disease alopecia.

Will Smith later apologized.

- The criticism has been about the fact that you can't use physical violence just because you don't like a comedian's joke.

Will Smith has since been ported from the Oscars, says Michelle Hallström.

"The Swedes are very strange"

"Swedengate" began as a discussion about culture clashes on the internet forum Reddit.

One person shared the experience that, as a child, he had to wait in the room at a friend's house, while he and his family ate dinner.

The hashtag Swedengate went viral and the Swedes' alleged stinginess was discussed worldwide.

- Many people think the Swedes are very strange.

Even the Norwegians have talked crap and said "typical Sweden".

Swedes probably think that it's not about stinginess but politeness, that you don't want to disturb someone else's plan.

Rapper Kanye West, or Ye, has found himself in a storm of criticism for his racist and anti-Semitic statements, where he spoke positively about Hitler and the Nazis, among other things.

- Kanye West has been controversial for a long time, but this year it has escalated.

He has been removed on Twitter and Instagram for his anti-Semitic remarks.

Adidas and Gap, among others, have chosen to end their collaborations with him.

Live relationship drama

The live trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was another major media event, with both accusing each other of defamation.

It ended with Amber Heard having to pay her ex-husband $15 million in damages.

- It was news that engaged and polarized.

Many found it fascinating to follow a relationship that is so complex and destructive live, almost like reality TV.

It was just a weird occurrence in popular culture.
