Malaga is a living city

, a city of the future in continuous metamorphosis to offer citizens the best quality of life.

In recent years, the capital of the Costa del Sol has gained momentum to star in an exponential leap: in number of inhabitants;

in basic services and tourist and cultural leisure;

in urban sustainability;

in economics;

in technology... It has become an

open

city , it has opted for the avant-garde and today it attracts inhabitants from all over the globe: not just

not in search of its sun and its beaches, but to meet a friendly city that has favored coexistence -fleeing from sectarianism- and quality employment -eliminating barriers-.

In short, a

very high standard of living

.

It is not the result of chance, but the result of a possible strategy because it has the necessary stability for it to continue over time: public-private collaboration, legal certainty and facing challenges without the ideological prejudices that deteriorate other cities.

Nor has it been a matter of a day: Malaga has been looking forward for decades and, most importantly, without neglecting its present.

For all this, and more,

in EL MUNDO we named it city of the year 2022.

Malaga is in brilliant form.

Its population grows -50,000 in just two years, 2020 and 2021- and its environment is enviable.

Francisco de la Torre, mayor for more than 20 years, is aware that mobility and the housing issue are two of his immediate challenges, and for this reason he is already preparing, among other packages, the construction of between 3,000 and 4,000 homes. .

Without ever denying its label as a tourist destination, Malaga has gone to the next level, and it has done so, above all,

establishing itself as a pole of cultural attraction comparable to the best in Europe

.

It has invested in artistic expressions as a model to promote knowledge, innovation, education and entrepreneurship and has renewed the expectations of the tourism sector by promoting cultural projects of great importance.

There are the Center for Contemporary Art, the Picasso Museum, the Pompidou, its Film Festival, Soho and its little piece of Broadway... The economic impact of tourist activity is sky-high.

But it is no longer its only pillar, because

Malaga is at the forefront of technology and new ways of working

.

Its Málaga Tech is the headquarters of more than 60 multinationals such as Oracle and Accentura;

Vodafone and Google will soon reach it and the financial world is also looking for it as a nucleus to release its innovative and modern talent.

It is a virtuous cycle: companies and senior professionals arrive, leisure and culture are demanded, museums, restaurants, shops open, more employment is generated... And the standard of living rises.

In the midst of a debate about what taxes are dedicated to, many people from Malaga will surely support what theirs are used for.
