A new experimental drug to kill cancer cells in the bone marrow achieved a success rate in 73% of leukemia patients who volunteered to participate in clinical trials of this drug.

The new drug aims to employ white blood cells, whose role is to eliminate microbes and viruses inside the body, to attack leukemia cells, in a scientific development that scientists describe as “putting the army directly in front of the enemy.”

The scientific journal “The New England Journal of Medicine” indicated that the new drug “Talkitamab” achieved success in the first and second phases of clinical trials, and the correct doses for treatment were determined in the second phase of the tests.

It is noteworthy that all participants in the experiment had previously received treatment with three different treatment protocols without any improvement, which shows that the new drug gives new hope to patients with multiple myeloma cancer that affects white blood cells and is difficult to treat.

And the website “Medical Express”, which specializes in medical research, quoted the director of clinical research at the Tisch Cancer Center, affiliated with the Icahn College of Medicine in the United States, Doctor Ajay Shari, as saying that these results mean that “three quarters of these patients have a chance to obtain a new life contract.” He stressed that the new drug provoked a tangible response in patients who had previously been treated and had relapses as a result of their multiple myeloma, which is the second most common type of blood cancer.

He pointed out that talkitamab provides a vital option for patients who have not responded to the currently available treatments, and gives them an opportunity to extend their lives and benefit from other treatments that can be developed in the future.
