Helene Hegemann was celebrated as a literary sensation with her first novel "Axolotl Roadkill" twelve years ago, and now the writer and director has presented the first volume of stories.

She herself describes how this came about: Initially, she was concerned "within two or three years to write down everything by hand as inefficiently as possible that rushes through my head." Regardless of plots, connections, developments , without the "prison novel idea".

Later, connections would have shown up and pieces would have joined, and the stories would have "written themselves".

Some of the stories collected in "Schlachtensee" are only three pages long, others sixty.

The characters in them dream, wrestle with themselves and with their understanding of the reality of our lives, they fight for or against their bodies and wonder how they can regain access to the world.

On November 28, Helene Hegemann presented her collection of stories "Schlachtensee" in the Literaturhaus Frankfurt.

It was moderated by Sandra Kegel.

"Schlachtensee" by Helene Hegemann was published by Kiepenheuer & Witsch, has 272 pages and costs 23 euros.
