The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi is organizing the Al Hosn Festival for 10 days, from January 13 to 22, 2023, in the Al Hosn area.

The annual festival, which celebrates Abu Dhabi's heritage, history and vibrant culture, witnesses a rich schedule of events to be held in the historic buildings and outdoor courtyards of Al Hosn, which shed light on the emirate's cultural heritage and traditional crafts, as well as creative works and contemporary artistic experiences.

This year's festival's agenda includes a diverse program of activities that meet the aspirations of visitors of all ages, including a series of performance, heritage and artwork shows, handicraft and design exhibitions, creative workshops, shopping and culinary arts experiences.

Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, said: “The Al Hosn Festival has become a cornerstone of our cultural agenda, through which we tell the story of Abu Dhabi in the Al Hosn area, a living witness to the emergence of the capital and its civilized march.

This event celebrates our authentic heritage and traditional crafts, and places them in a context that links them to contemporary artistic activities in the emirate, by providing a platform for inspiration and the exchange of experiences between the elements of its cultural system.

The festival is a major focus within the efforts of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi aimed at preserving the elements of our ancient heritage, and supporting new generations of artists, craftsmen and creators.

The festival's activities are held along the vast Al Hosn area, where Qasr Al Hosn transports its visitors on a journey through time to explore the legacy of fathers and grandfathers, providing a glimpse into life in Abu Dhabi over the past decades.

Visitors also have the opportunity to watch live demonstrations of Emirati craft skills and techniques at the House of Artisans, and they can participate in creative workshops and follow competitions that focus on the elements of Emirati culture.

The Cultural Foundation hosts a program that stimulates innovation and creative ideas with an outstanding collection of art exhibitions, performances, as well as film, design, installation and interactive workshops.

The “Makers Village” also returns to the festival with a bouquet of artists and designers’ products within the pavilions of leading Emirati and Gulf shops and workshops, as well as modern brands seeking to introduce their products, and restaurants that offer a unique experience.

In the heart of Abu Dhabi’s ever-evolving urban landscape, Al Hosn Festival provides a platform for experimentation and cultural dialogue, while preserving Emirati traditions, in line with the vision and mission of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi to protect and enhance the emirate’s heritage, consolidate its position as a global cultural destination, and provide an open platform for artistic experiences.
