• This Wednesday in Aix is presented for the first time in France the show of the Dutch artist Daan Roosegard.

  • This is advertised as “organic fireworks”.

But the recipe is well guarded.

For the shortest day of the year, light goes on in Aix-en-Provence.

This Wednesday, the date of the winter solstice, the city welcomes at the end of the biennial of art and culture an installation presented as an "organic fireworks" by the Dutch artist Daan Roosegard.

Revealed in Bilbao last June,

Spark

, as the artist named his creation, was then visible in London and therefore landed in Provence for its premiere in France.

Of the technologies used, it is difficult to know more and the artist and his team want to preserve their secret which adds to the magic.

Daan Roosegard presents his creation as being composed of "thousands of luminous sparks made from biodegradable materials that move silently in a changing wind".

Information taken from the side of the Aix organizers, the device does not require firing.

It would most certainly be a kind of bubbles suspended in the air and on which lights are projected.

The illuminated surface represents a square of 50 meters on a side, to a depth of 30 meters, specifies the presentation of the show.

A performance which, thus described, is more reminiscent of a dynamic and in-depth mapping than of fireworks.

Yuksek and Rubin Steiner in DJ set

An ecological way to "transform the traditional and polluting methods of celebrations such as fireworks, balloons, drones and confetti", assures the 43-year-old artist.

To attend this show, you will have to take your place on the side of avenue Mozart or on the terraces of the Grand Théâtre de Provence from 6.30 p.m.

This will be interspersed with two DJ sets by Rubin Steiner and Yuksek.

This event therefore puts an end to the first biennale of art and culture in Aix-en-Provence, the program of which has changed each season.

Nearly 300,000 people attended some 250 projects presented over the four seasons.

The organizers are considering renewing this biennale for the coming year.
