The Academy of the Arabic Language in Sharjah presented to His Eminence the Grand Imam Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayyib, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, three copies of the completed parts of the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, totaling 36 volumes, covering the first nine letters of the Arabic letters.

This came during the visit of the Secretary-General of the Academy, Dr. Muhammad Safi Al-Mostaghanemi, to the Sheikhdom of Al-Azhar, within the framework of seeking to further strengthen relations between the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah and the official academic and scientific institutions that contribute efforts and roles in serving and teaching the Arabic language.

During the visit, the Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, along with a number of senior scholars of the Union of Arab Linguistic and Scientific Academies, met His Eminence the Grand Imam, and conveyed to His Eminence a message from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, informing him of His Highness's gratitude for the efforts The greatness of the Sheikh of Al-Azhar in spreading Islam, and introducing the tolerance of the Islamic religion in international conferences, academies, and international official forums.

For his part, Dr. Al-Tayeb expressed his pride in the message of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, and praised the efforts and achievements sponsored by His Highness to empower the Arabic language and raise the banner of Arab culture in the modern era, within the civilizational project of the Emirate that His Highness has been leading for more than 50 years, and expressed his pleasure to receive Copies of the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language.

His Eminence, Sheikh Al-Azhar, said: “Sharjah has become a destination for scholars, researchers, and academics, as it represents a scientific and cultural beacon with its own civilized project that heralds the nation’s renaissance and advancement through sponsoring major scientific and research projects, such as the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language project, supporting linguistic and scientific academies, and establishing a complex edifice. The Holy Qur’an and universities with diverse scientific faculties and various edifices of knowledge, culture and science.

For his part, Al-Mostaghanemi said: “We were keen to dedicate copies of the parts that were completed from the historical dictionary of the Arabic language to His Eminence, the Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, because Al-Azhar represents a prominent beacon on the level of the Islamic world, and let us put before his virtue and in front of Al-Azhar scholars this great lexical project sponsored by him Sharjah».
