On December 19, the Taipei Zoo held a press conference to announce the pathological anatomy report of the giant panda "Tuantuan" donated by the mainland to Taiwan.

According to the report, "Tuantuan" suffers from "obesity cell astrocytoma".

The Taipei Zoo stated that after "Tuantuan" passed away at the Taipei Zoo on November 19 due to the deterioration of his condition, the pathological autopsy was performed immediately on the same day, and the sampled tissues were sent for inspection.

In addition to performing pathological anatomy on dead animals in accordance with regulations, the zoo will also try to preserve the fur, bones and living cells of the "bundles" as completely as possible in the future.

Liu Zhenxuan, a professor at the National Taiwan University College of Veterinary Medicine, introduced at the press conference that day that "obese cell astrocytoma" is a primary brain tumor that may grow anywhere in the central nervous system (brain or spinal cord) .

Tuantuan's brain tumor grew on the left side of the brain, accompanied by liquefaction necrosis of a large area of tissue, which is also the cause of Tuantuan's epilepsy.

The giant pandas “Tuan Tuan” and “Yuan Yuan” donated to Taiwan by the mainland have settled down in the Taipei Zoo since 2008. They successfully gave birth to cubs “Yuan Zai” and “Yuan Bao” in 2013 and 2020 respectively. Taiwanese compatriots love it.
