• Consumption Alert for the presence of salmonella in a type of gelatin

  • Salmonellosis What is it, symptoms and how can we avoid it?

The Norwegian health authorities have issued a statement

pointing to Spain

as the possible origin of some cucumbers that have caused an outbreak of salmonella.

In total there would be 72 people across the country who have been diagnosed with the gastrointestinal bacterium Salmonella Agona.

They all fell ill with salmonellosis from the end of October to the beginning of December.

Cases with the same outbreak strain have also been reported in

Sweden and the Netherlands

in the same time period.

"The results of the outbreak investigation show that certain lots of cucumbers from a Spanish supplier are the likely source of infection. These lots of cucumbers are no longer on the market and therefore we have not been able to test the product for infection. outbreak bacteria," says consultant

Heidi Lange

.

"The outbreak is probably

over

, but we cannot rule out that more isolated cases may appear. We are monitoring the situation," Lange adds.

The Health expert recommends that fresh fruits and vegetables, such as cucumbers, should always be washed and dried well, especially imported products.

Cucumber can be peeled.

She points out that it is important to wash hands after handling so that contamination

is not transferred in the kitchen or to other foods

.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health has analyzed more than 50 patient samples as well as purchasing information.

This body has also carried out studies and controls comparing what the infected have eaten with a random selection of other people.

Nearly 90 percent of those infected

reported eating cucumber in the week before becoming ill, although cucumber eating is very common in Norway.
