Participation in the legislative elections, the first round of which took place on Saturday 17 December, is historically low in Tunisia, with a preliminary rate of barely 9%.

This is the lowest rate since the 2011 Revolution. A snub for President Kaïs Saïed, whose opposition demanded the departure on Sunday.

The ANC, the ruling party in South Africa, re-elected Cyril Ramaphosa as its president on Monday, December 19.

The country's current president is now assured of a second term at the helm if the historic party wins the general election in 2024. Cyril Ramaphosa has been struggling for months in a corruption-scented scandal and he escaped to impeachment proceedings.

In Kenya a major police reform was ordered by President William Ruto.

A special unit was already disbanded in October due to its involvement in extrajudicial executions and disappearances.

But while scandals have erupted in recent weeks, police impunity is not recent and human rights organizations have been denouncing violations for many years.

This "peace with nature pact", called the "Kunming-Montreal Agreement", aims to protect land, oceans and species from pollution, degradation and the climate crisis.
