The “SENDAI Pageant of Light”, which colors Sendai in winter with light, started on the night of the 9th.

"SENDAI Pageant of Light" is a winter tradition of Sendai where more than 100 zelkova trees line Jozenji-dori in the center of Sendai City and are decorated with light bulbs.

This year, the 37th time, the 9th was the first day, and at 7 pm, about 470,000 LED bulbs attached to the zelkova trees lit up all at once, and a loud cheer went up from the venue.

Young people and families who visited were walking slowly and taking pictures while looking up at the fantastic scenery wrapped in light.

A woman in her 70s from Sendai said, "I feel warm when I'm surrounded by light. It's a winter tradition, so I hope it continues."

This year, the period was shortened by about a week compared to the previous year due to the rising price of light bulbs and soaring labor costs for security at the venue.

The Pageant of Lights will run for 17 days until the 25th of this month, from 7pm to 10pm on weekdays and from 6pm to 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
