Two days without hunting per week, including Sunday.

Here is the request made by fifteen environmental NGOs who wrote to President Emmanuel Macron.

"Our associations formally ask you to establish without delay at the national level two days including Sunday without hunting or destruction", is it written in this letter dated November but made public this Thursday.

The letter is signed by major NGOs such as France nature environment (FNE), Greenpeace or the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO).

“Wildlife also has the right to two days out of seven”

"It is high time to better share space, especially since accidents, which are still too numerous despite the reduction in the number of hunters, are no longer acceptable", judge the signatories.

“On the other hand, wildlife also has the right to two days out of seven without hunting or destruction in a country where hunting pressure in terms of opening period and number of species hunted breaks all records in Europe” , they add in this brief missive.

Green deputies have just tabled a bill aimed at "prohibiting hunting on weekends, public holidays and school holidays".

In October, the government announced a “roadmap to improve and guarantee hunting safety”, notably considering introducing an alcohol offense or in certain regions half-days without hunting.

Although the government favors implementation at the local level, in peri-urban or very busy forests, the Secretary of State for Ecology, Bérangère Couillard had said that she was not closing the door "to a national orientation" and indicated that the doing on Sunday "is not a taboo subject".
