• Festival organizers still cannot digest Gérald Darmanin's announcement of a possible cancellation of certain events in 2024 due to the holding of the Olympic Games in Paris and in many cities in France.

  • They call on the Ministry of the Interior to work together in order to find solutions.

They do not yet know what sauce they will be eaten.

Gathered this Friday in Rennes on the occasion of the Trans Musicales, the actors of the cultural world are still in shock at the announcements of Gérald Darmanin.

On October 25, during a hearing in the Senate, the Minister of the Interior cast a chill by announcing "the postponement or cancellation of all events in France which require mobile force units or which require the very presence number of police officers" during the Olympic Games to be held in Paris in 2024.

Clearly targeted, the blood of festival organizers then boiled over.

A month and a half later, the anger has still not subsided.

“It is unthinkable that in the 7th world power, we cannot organize the Olympic Games and the festivals at the same time”, deplores Frédéric Hocquard, president of the national federation of local authorities for culture (FNCC).

"Festivals are the image of France and its cultural exception and we must defend it in 2024 when the whole world will have its eyes riveted on us", continues Maria-Carmela Mini, co-president of France Festivals.

“A new white year would be catastrophic”

Cultural actors assure that they have nothing against the holding of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which are even "an opportunity" for France according to them.

But they do not want the festivals to be sacrificed and that we “oppose sport and culture, small and large festivals, Paris and the territories.

“Especially since the Covid shut down the entire cultural sector for two years.

“A new white year in 2024 would be catastrophic”, assures Laurent Decès, president of the current music union.

In firecracker against the bottom, the actors of the cultural world are also against the form since the announcement of Gérald Darmanin was made "without any consultation", according to them.

They now call on the Minister of the Interior for a constructive dialogue in order to find solutions to preserve the festivals.

"Let him explain to us what exactly are the organizational problems that this poses," says Christophe Davy, president of the national union for musical and variety shows (Prodiss).

We are able to hear them and adapt but so far there has been no work.

“We still have a year and a half to find solutions and secure all our festivals, underlines the deputy of Morbihan Paul Molac.

So let's anticipate and discuss it.

We wouldn't understand why we couldn't find solutions.
