In France, many pregnant women live far from a maternity hospital.

To help them, a system has been in place in the Allier since the end of the summer.

Women about to give birth who live more than 45 minutes from the Vichy maternity ward can benefit from temporary accommodation in a hotel, reports

.

Expectant mothers can sleep there for a maximum of five consecutive nights before the estimated date of their birth or 21 nights in the case of a pregnancy with pathology.

The support is 80 euros per night.

In Vichy, no woman has requested this service yet.

“It seems complicated to me to set up.

It is not known when a patient will give birth.

For the most part, this happens before the term”, explains a secretary of the maternity ward.

The three maternity units in the department are not affected by a potential closure, but the situation is tense due to the lack of staff.
