December 8 marks the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that started the Pacific War.

The museum in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, which is working to pass on the memories of the war, has started a new initiative that allows the young generation and those who are refraining from going out due to the corona sickness to tour the exhibits in the hall on the Internet. .

The "Peace Memorial Exhibition and Museum" in Shinjuku Ward has themes such as former Japanese soldiers and interned in Siberia. We are working on inheriting the memory of the war by exhibiting a model that reproduces ".

On December 8, 81 years after the start of the Pacific War, people of all ages visited and toured the museum.

A 57-year-old woman said, "My chest hurt so much, and I thought that there were people who had such hardships, and that's what Japan is today. War is something that should never be done, and everyone should be happy in the world. I want it," he said.

As the number of people who experienced the war is dwindling, the museum has embarked on a new initiative since the end of last month in an effort to pass on the memories of that time to the next generation.

For the younger generation and those who are refraining from going out due to the corona wreck, we have released a "virtual museum" on our website where you can simulate the exhibits in the museum on the Internet.

The "virtual museum" is created based on images taken throughout the museum with a high-performance camera, and when you scroll the screen, you can tour the exhibition room as if you were actually visiting it.

Among them, the model of "Rageri" reproduces the inside of the dormitory and the snow piled up on the premises with 3D computer graphics.

At the museum, we would like to further enhance our efforts, such as using this initiative to prepare for school field trips.

Taido Sumikawa, the information management manager of the "Peace Memorial Museum" said, "Young people who are familiar with digital technology should take a look at it as a pre-learning before actually visiting the museum. I want to make the most of it.By doing so, I think we can pick up each person's war experience one by one and weave it together."
