Time has appointed a person of the year every year since 1927. The person of the year is someone who, for better or worse, most clearly influenced the past year.

Last year, tech mogul Elon Musk was named, in 2020 President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris shared the title and in 2019 Swedish Greta Thunberg was person of the year.

The newspaper has published a long report with Volodymyr Zelenskyj.

The article begins 262 days after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, two days after Russian troops withdrew from Kherson.

During a train trip to Kherson, Zelenskyy tells Time that he goes there against the recommendations of the bodyguards.

- I see it as my duty to go there and show them [the people of Kherson] that Ukraine has returned and supports them.

It might give them enough spirit to last a few more days.

But I'm not sure about that, I don't take comfort in those kinds of illusions, he tells Time.
