The defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is entering the next round.

As has now been revealed, the actress filed an appeal two weeks ago after a Virginia court ordered her to pay her ex-husband more than $10 million in early June.

In an article for the Washington Post at the end of 2018, Heard described himself as a victim of domestic violence.

Although she didn't mention Depp by name, the allegations pointed to the Golden Globe winner, whom she abruptly split from two years earlier after a brief marriage.

Depp sued the 36-year-old for $50 million, while Heard demanded $100 million in return.

The lawyers for the Texan justified their appeal with their client's therapy documents, which the court did not admit as evidence during the trial.

The documents allegedly show that Heard reported the alleged assaults in the past.

In addition, her lawyers argued that the trial should not have taken place in Virginia, but in California.

Her former husband filed an appeal earlier in November after the court ordered him to pay Heard $2 million during the summer trial.

The jury found it established that the 59-year-old "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor's former attorney Adam Waldman had slandered the actress with allegations of "abuse fraud".
