The judge in chambers of the administrative court of Cergy sent, last Friday to the Keeper of the Seals, eight injunctions with the aim of putting an end to the state of "permanent and endemic indignity at the prison center of Hauts-de-Seine", reports

Le Parisian

.

The instance had been seized after numerous reports mentioning the “unworthy” conditions of detention at the Nanterre remand center.

These reports, produced by the general controller of places of deprivation of liberty, the Bar Association in 2010 and 2016, or even the deputy Esther Benbassa on July 19, had highlighted the presence of rats, humidity, walls dirty, visible threads and an overcrowding that generates promiscuity.

With 942 detainees on November 21, 2022, the prison occupancy rate is thus 159%.

Eradicate the presence of rats

The authority, consequently, ordered various works in order to fit out six new cells and to repair those existing.

Garbage bags must also be distributed to limit the accumulation of rubbish and the throwing of food.

Finally, the rats will have to be eradicated and the telephones in the health unit will have to be repaired to contact the caregivers.
