It will be a gala comeback for P3 Gold.

Last year's awards ceremony was canceled due to the pandemic, and when the gala returns, four award categories will be scrapped.

The genre categories of this year's pop, rock/metal, dance and hip-hop/r'n'b are scrapped.

At the same time, the number of nominees increases to eight names in the categories artist/group of the year, song and album.

In previous years it has been four or five.

The newcomer in the award categories is the Icon of the Year, which, unlike the other categories, is not chosen by a vote, but by P3's own jury.

The award will go to an artist who has influenced the Swedish music climate and stays relevant with timeless music.

The gala will take place at the Partille arena on January 27 and will be hosted by Tina Mehrafzoon.

Among others, Zara Larsson and Olivia Lobato perform.

Yasin throws his prizes

After the P3 program "Din gata" came out with the news that, among other things, the hip-hop/r'n'b prize category would be removed, many reacted.

Among others, the rapper Jireel, who was to perform at the gala.

The rapper first thought that it was only the hiop/r'n'b category that was scrapped and therefore demanded clarification from P3.

"But they have refused to take down the picture despite all the criticism they have received and therefore I will refuse to play at the P3 Gold Gala next year," Jireel wrote in the post.

Hip-hop artist Yasin Mahamoud also posted a post where he had thrown his P3 Gold awards in a bin, also in response to the category being scrapped.

"Never let them put a price on your art," he wrote under the photo.
