George Clooney and the group U2 were honored at the Kennedy Center this Sunday.

The rock group and the actor were indeed part of the personalities honored during a great gala evening, alongside other artists such as Gladys Knight, Tania Leon or even Amy Grant.

Among the guests, a certain Joe Biden, accompanied by his wife Jill, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris and Douglas Emhoff, her husband.

In a statement before the ceremony, George Clooney said how happy and honored he was to be recognized alongside such talented artists.

“I, who grew up in a small town in Kentucky, never imagined that I would one day be seated on the Honors balcony of the Kennedy Center.

To be mentioned alongside the rest of these amazing artists is an honor,” he said, after being introduced by his father, Nick.

Commitment

The Irish group U2, also at the heart of the ceremony this year and led by its singer Bono, was rewarded, not only for its artistic and commercial success (22 Grammy Awards and more than 150 million records sold worldwide since its creation in 1976), but also for the charitable commitment of the musicians.

“Bono has often said that being famous is nonsense, fame is nonsense.

But it is a bargaining chip.

And the group spent their change to show the usefulness of art in the world,” said Sean Penn during the presentation of the group.

The ceremony being broadcast on CBS on December 28, the speeches of thanks of the personalities rewarded are under embargo.

The show will also be available to stream on Paramount+.
