  "1, 2, 3, let's go!"

At 6 o'clock in the morning, the sky was slightly bright, Miao Peilin, Zhang Meifang, Lei Yali, Li Chenghao, a group of young meteorologists from the Tuotuohe Meteorological Station, checked the radar and tested the receiver first after getting up.

At 7:15, the sounding balloon was released on time to watch the flight trajectory and receive data. About an hour later, the balloon burst at an altitude of 10,000 meters. Watching the data uploaded accurately, a sounding observation mission was completed.

After that, everyone washes up, eats breakfast, and starts a day of work and life.

At present, the Tuotuo River is already covered with snow, and the wind is bitingly cold in the morning and evening, and the temperature is already around minus 10 degrees Celsius.

Tuotuohe Meteorological Station is located on the edge of Hoh Xil No Man’s Land in Tanggula Mountains, Qinghai Province, on the banks of the Tuotuo River, the source of the Yangtze River. It is the highest altitude sounding meteorological station in the world. .

On the Hoh Xil Meadow about 3 kilometers south of the weather station, there is an observation field of about 2,500 square meters.

From March to October, three times a month, the staff of the weather station will go there to take samples without warning.

In summer, the ice and snow melted, and the water level of a small river rose. Everyone had to wade across the river. The water filled the rain boots, and it was extremely cold, so they took off their shoes and worked barefoot.

The weather on the plateau changes rapidly, and the weather phenomena are extremely complex. More than ten kinds of weather phenomena will appear within a few hours. In order to accurately record complex weather, the on-duty staff must keep an eye on the computer at all times to check the data reception status.

In the cold nights of winter, there are often equipment failures such as wind cups being frozen and wind vanes being blown off. At this time, both male and female employees have to brave the biting cold wind to repair them.

Qiao Wei, deputy head of the Tuotuohe Meteorological Station, said: "Every time a ball is released, it is a test for everyone. There is no room for carelessness. Ensuring high-quality meteorological observation data is our lifeline."

In Mongolian, Tanggula Mountain means "a mountain that an eagle cannot fly over", and it is also known as a "forbidden zone for life".

After the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, traffic has improved, but local supplies are still in short supply. Vegetables and fresh fruits are luxury goods.

Miao Peilin, director of the Tuotuohe Meteorological Station, and Zhang Meifang, member of the discipline inspection station, are two "post-80s" on the station, who have worked in Tanggula Mountain for more than 10 years.

As "old comrades", facing the difficult environment, they were very optimistic: "Compared with the old predecessors, we are much more comfortable. Everyone's choice is different. Since we have chosen this job, there is nothing to worry about. I'm complaining. The only regret is that I have been at the weather station for a long time, and when children and the elderly need care most, there is no way to be by their side."

The weak Lei Yali first went to work at the Wudaoliang Meteorological Station in December 2014, and was assigned to the Tuotuohe Meteorological Station in January 2018.

She joked that she was a woman who "circled" in Tanggula Mountain.

I remember one time, when Lei Yali and two female colleagues went out to observe, they met some big dogs on the way and came straight to them. When they panicked, they took out a dog-beating stick, and the dogs were scared away.

The three of them looked at each other in blank dismay, really frightened and dangerous.

Li Chenghao, who was younger, said that he searched the Tuotuohe weather station on the Internet in college, and heard Wang Liefu, the former head of the station in the documentary "I Love You, China", say that if the balloon cannot be successfully launched, it means that the Tuotuohe weather station is today. In the data exchanged by the global weather, it will be blank.

"This made me realize the importance of this job, and it also strengthened my confidence to devote myself to this job." (End)
