Sunflowers in a buckwheat field in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture, bloom out of season, and the way they bloom while enduring the cold sea breeze blowing in from the Sea of Japan has become a hot topic.
Yoshiki Sato's buckwheat field in Hokuto, Sado City has about 6,000 bright yellow sunflowers in December.
This field is one of the tourist spots where about 20,000 sunflowers bloom in the summer. It means that there is something to bloom.
Last month was warmer than usual, so Mr. Sato said, "It's been more than 25 years since I started cultivating sunflowers, but it's very rare for them to be in full bloom in December. Pick the sunflowers freely and bring them home. It's okay to have it," he said.
The combination of the Sea of Japan and sunflowers in winter can be enjoyed until around the 10th of this month.
