A patient stops her roommate's ventilator because she is disturbed by the sound

A 72-year-old female patient in Germany was arrested after it was discovered that she had turned off another patient's ventilator inside the room twice;

Because she was disturbed by the sound the device made, according to The Guardian.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the incident, which took place in the southwestern city of Mannheim on Tuesday evening.

Police and prosecutors said the suspect turned off the woman's ventilator and then, despite staff telling her it was vital for the patient, turned it off again later in the evening.

A joint press release, published by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Mannheim and the Mannheim police, stated that the woman had turned off the respirator before eight o'clock in the evening after she was "disturbed by the noise from the oxygen machine."

"Although hospital staff informed the suspect that supplying oxygen was a vital procedure, she is said to have turned the machine off again around 9pm," the statement read.

The authorities said the 79-year-old patient had to be resuscitated, and while her life was not in danger, she still needed intensive care.

The suspect appeared before a judge on Wednesday and was taken to prison, and investigations are still underway into the incident.
