Successful entry.

This weekend, the Louvre-Lens is celebrating its 10th anniversary with great fanfare.

Inaugurated on December 4, 2012 by President François Hollande, the museum, which is located a few steps from the Bollaert stadium, the temple of football, in Lens, in the Pas-de-Calais, has managed to integrate into the mining landscape.

At the beginning of November, it has just welcomed its five millionth visitor, in this case a visitor, and the workshops offered to children or adults are often sold out.

“With our attendance statistics, we estimate that all Lensois have already come to the museum at least eight times since it opened, but we know that there are still many of them who have never come.

It gives an idea of the loyalty of local visitors, ”underlines Gautier Verbeke, director of mediation at the Louvre-Lens.

Successful regional anchoring

The challenge of regional anchoring is also met.

According to the museum's figures, 70% of visitors come from Hauts-de-France.

“Which gives us a solid base”, recognizes Gauthier Verbeke, especially since the public has returned since the Covid-19 crisis.

“This year, we are going to exceed 500,000 visitors”, assures the mediator.

Birthday and feast of Sainte-Barbe (the feast of minors) oblige, the entrance to the place is completely free on weekends.

Starting Saturday morning, with the opening of a participatory exhibition entirely designed by young people from the territory in a situation of professional and social integration.

Intime & Moi

, that's its name, is a post-lockdown project that questions intimacy through various works, ranging from sculpture to photography.

And because Egyptology has been on the rise for several years in France, the museum has bet this year on the land of the pharaohs with the

Champollion

exhibition which ends on January 16.

Workshops, animations, activities around games of light, Egyptian-disco visits, but also a fiery walk in the park by the artistic company Carabosse and a birthday cake are also on the menu of the festivities.
