After leaving his hometown in Fuzhou for most of his life, Guo Konghui, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, still calls himself a Hou Guanren. When he thinks about his mother, he often thinks of Zhu Zi's family instructions written by Chen Baochen on the wall of his grandma's house in Luozhou, Fuzhou.

"Houguan" is the ancient name of Fuzhou.

In modern times, Lin Zexu, "the first person who opened his eyes to see the world", Shen Baozhen, "the father of Chinese shipping administration", Yan Fu, the "first person of Western learning" in modern China, Lin Xu, one of the "Six Gentlemen" of the Reform Movement of 1898, Lin Juemin and Fang Sheng, martyrs of the Guangzhou Uprising of 1911 A group of outstanding figures who led the times, such as Dong Dong, were all descended from Hou Guan.

At present, the academic circles in Fujian are taking modern marquis officials as the line to deeply cultivate the cultural soil of a group of people who care about their family and country and open their eyes to see changes, and explore how to "inherit the flow of generations and understand the changes of the present."

From December 1st to 2nd, under the guidance of the Propaganda Department of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Education Work Committee of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, the first Houguan Forum was held in Fuzhou, hosted by Fujian Normal University and the Management Committee of the New Campus of Fuzhou Regional University.

A number of scholars have taken the modern perspective as their observation, hoping to continue the context in the Fujian chapter of comprehensively promoting Chinese-style modernization.

Guo Konghui was born in an overseas Chinese family in the suburbs of Fuzhou in 1935.

His grandfather, Guo Qinrong, was the first generation of overseas Chinese who returned to China in the 1920s, and built the Western-style manor "Xinyuanlu".

His father, Guo Hejing, was educated in English in Malaysia. After returning to China, he raised funds to establish Fuzhou No. 9 Middle School.

He was admitted to the Department of Aeronautics of Tsinghua University, and then turned to automotive engineering research, becoming the main founder of Chinese automotive tire mechanics.

Looking back at the time when he came, this Hou Guan said frankly that most of the descendants of Bamin are determined to study, cherish their family and country, persevere in spite of setbacks, and those who eventually achieve success are all unknowingly influenced by the Hou Guan culture.

"Fuzhou is a famous historical and cultural city, and our Houguan culture is even more profound. Celebrities such as Lin Zexu, Yan Fu, and Shen Baozhen have emerged in large numbers, creating the spirit of advocating literature, scholarship, and serving the country in the bones of Houguan people."

"Although the 'Houguan culture' is a regional culture, it is a part of the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and it is the fruit of the Chinese excellent culture spreading branches and leaves in the land of China." Professor Lin Shangli, President of Renmin University of China said, "Houguan culture" The most important reason why she can become a respected cultural phenomenon is not that she has bred a group of historical celebrities, but that her spiritual characteristics embody the essence of Chinese culture.

In Lin Shangli's view, among the spiritual characteristics contained in Houguan culture, the most distinctive point is to unify the individual's ego with the country and the nation's ego, and always put the country as the biggest and the nation as the most important.

"This is the 'root and soul of the Chinese nation' that took root in the ancient land of Houguan."

Xu Yaotong, a first-level professor at the Central Party School, believes that the patriotic spirit of Hou Guan sages represented by Lin Zexu and Yan Fu contains lofty ideals and purposes, covering politics, economy, culture, technology, education and other aspects.

"As a regional culture, Houguan culture can reflect the great spirit of patriotism in such a concentrated and comprehensive way. This is a very unique and commendable phenomenon."

In the view of Song Jianxiao, party secretary of Fujian Jiangxia College, Hou Guan’s overseas students not only wrote a joint letter to serve the country, showing their utter loyalty and patriotism, but Hou Guan’s culture also has the value of cohesiveness. One point: how to make the Chinese people cohere and unite."

"Houguan people who migrated overseas took root in Malaysia, and built a small town of 'Houguan taste' - Sibu area for more than 100 years. Chinese people's memory of 'roots' has become an important link to strengthen cultural identity."

"In Houguan culture, Houguan's new learning represented by Yan Fu in modern times is undoubtedly a monument." Professor Wang Zhenglu of Fujian Normal University believes that Yan Fu embraced the dream of Chinese revival and China's prosperity all his life.

His thought played an important and irreplaceable role and significance in the evolution of Chinese modern thought and in the choice of the modernization path of Chinese traditional society before and after his lifetime.

"Today's China is self-confident, self-reliant, upright and innovative. This is our best consolation to Yan Fu and other sages."

Shen Yuan, the sixth-generation granddaughter of Shen Baozhen and deputy secretary-general of the Lin Zexu Foundation, said that Hou Guanli’s family tradition and culture of cultivating people have nurtured these batches of outstanding figures. Standing up to serve the country at that time, this is the excellent character cultivated by the millennium Houguan culture."

Zhang Mei, a professor of Fujian Normal University, pointed out that looking back at the sages of Houguan and continuing the Houguan culture is not simply to reproduce the past, but to follow the law of cultural inheritance, and to use the gravitational waves of the Houguan culture across time and space to shake the current and stimulate high-spirited Upward modern sound.

Zhang Mei believes that we should start from the core social function of culture, "becoming a person".

Focus on education with the fundamental purpose of cultivating talents, and realize the multi-dimensional inheritance of Houguan culture and talent cultivation.
