returns to extraterrestrial phenomena explained or not.

  • In Montpellier, the Ovni-Languedoc association regularly investigates after having been asked by witnesses of unexplained phenomena.

  • About half of the cases have rational answers, a quarter of the testimonies are too imprecise or too old.

A quarter of cases remain unanswered, despite meticulous investigations…

They are eleven.

Eleven investigators of a somewhat special kind.

The ufologists of the Ovni-Languedoc association (which has many more members) try to answer this question that they are asked regularly.

Always the same: “What are these things that I saw in the sky?

»

“So far, 2022 has been pretty quiet.

There were six cases in all.

But depending on the year, it can go up to 18 observations, ”explains Thierry Gaulin, president since 2006 of an association whose scope of action goes well beyond Languedoc.

To this question, the eleven investigators – always in pairs – try to proceed rationally.

“We ask them to fill out an information sheet.

From the information that is communicated to us, we look at whether there is a need or the possibility of carrying out an investigation, develops Thierry Gaulin.

If this is the case, then we ask to meet the witnesses”.

Firefighters, gendarmes, airports, consultation of flight radar (which lists planes in flight), there are many resources to provide answers.

“Organizations respond favorably to us because we are methodical.

And that our results are also of interest to them.

A third of cases are quickly resolved.

“Like Starlink, the constellation of satellites sent into the sky by Elon Musk, which had aroused great emotion.

Up to two and a half years of investigation

For others, the duration of the investigation may be much longer.

Two and a half years is the time it took to understand this luminous trail seen by witnesses.

“It was the contrails left by planes.

They only took on this aspect with a certain luminosity and at a precise moment of the day.

In order for us to understand this phenomenon, we had the decisive support of the gendarmerie, which agreed to block five kilometers of a highway at the same time, the same day.

»

Inevitably, part of the population takes them for sweet lunatics.

Thierry Gaulin does not take offense.

The profiles are diverse among the members of the association.

He himself is a history-geo teacher, a minority are scientists.

But all of them are passionate about UFOs… and convinced that there is indeed extraterrestrial life.

A quarter of unanswered cases

About 45% of cases submitted to the association are resolved.

Of the others, half concern testimonies that are too old or deemed too imprecise.

The rest is what excites them.

Like this phenomenon dating from 2011. “In Sète, two people saw in the distance a luminous phenomenon in a triangle.

They stayed half an hour to observe it before the lights went off at full speed towards La Grande Motte.

It couldn't be a boat.

We queried many resources.

To date, we have no response.

»

Or this luminous pavement seen by two women and their children near the Clémentville clinic in Montpellier, which remained unanswered.

"If we found an explanation for everything, we could say that the UFO phenomenon does not exist", continues Thierry Gaulin.

“And yet, even NASA, which cannot be considered crazy, has announced the creation of an investigation group of sixteen independent experts to understand it.

»

So, for all these unanswered cases, how to explain the inexplicable?

“The most likely reason is that we are witnessing a mixture of misunderstandings and things that we cannot explain, believes Thierry Gaulin.

The list of theories is long.

It goes from the extraterrestrial hypothesis, to the shamanic hypothesis, which consists of a voyage of the spirit, passing by the hypothesis of Earthlings traveling in time.

Or maybe it's a mixture of all these theories…”
