They are 450 recognized victims.
The Recognition and Reparation Commission (CRR), a structure established after the Sauvé report which revealed the extent of pedocrime in the Catholic Church since 1950, communicated its figures Thursday after almost a year of operation.
Among the victims, 36 obtained financial compensation.
The objective of the CRR is to register requests for reparations, financial or not, from victims of aggressors within religious institutes or congregations and then to propose mediation between the two parties.
To help in the process, the structure, made up of 25 commissioners, has established questionnaires and scales, which range from 5,000 to 60,000 euros.
An average repair amount of 40,000 euros
Out of these 450 situations, the CRR “made 80 reparation recommendations” to institutes, including both a pecuniary component and a non-financial component.
And on these 80 files, “the average amount of repair is 40,000 euros”, specified Antoine Garapon, president of the commission.
Among the 80 recommendations, 37 situations “are closed”: financial reparations have been paid for 36 of them, the last victim having not requested compensation.
For the other 43, the CRR has made a notification to the congregation concerned but the process is not finished, according to it.
Among the 450 victims accompanied, 85% were minors at the time of the events, and 71% of these minor victims are men.
