Besides being the son of the well-known musician Thomas Helmig and former model and writer Renee Toft Simonsen, Hugo Helmig is probably best known for the debut single "Please don't lie" which he released at the age of 18, and which became the most played Danish song on radio in Denmark in 2017.

Hugo Helmig also had a breakthrough in the series "Hugo og Helmig", which was broadcast on DR after the music debut and which depicted his life.

Last year, the young musician announced that he was suspending his career indefinitely, as he suffered from anxiety and paranoia.

During periods he had also had substance abuse problems.

The mini-album "Lulu" - after the nickname his mother gave him as a child - was Hugo Helmig's last.
