On the afternoon of November 30, when the "Yongda 99" of Ningbo Shuangning Shipping Co., Ltd. sailed through the waters of the Gulei Peninsula, it received an emergency message from the Ship Traffic Management Center of the local Maritime Safety Administration: Guangdong 5000-ton container ship "Yu Sheng 788" was in distress in this sea area. There were 13 crew members on board, and they were in urgent need of rescue.

After receiving the distress message, Xue Junfa, the captain of the "Yongda 99" ship, immediately commanded the "Yongda 99" ship carrying steel materials to advance at full speed to the target sea area.

Due to the strong wind and rough waves, the freighter traveling against the wind kept shaking back and forth on the sea surface, which made the rescue work more difficult.

The voyage of about 3 nautical miles took nearly 40 minutes to approach the accident sea area.

Xue Junfa notified the five crew members on board to carefully observe the sea surface conditions, while making rescue preparations in advance to ensure that the distressed crew members were found and rescued as soon as possible.

Not long after, everyone found a life raft floating like a leaf in the waves. More than a dozen crew members in distress crowded on the life raft, bumping up and down with the waves and waiting for rescue.

At this time, the container ship in distress had sunk due to water ingress in the cabin, and the crew had to abandon the ship in an emergency to escape, and there was a danger of being overturned by the waves and entering the sea at any time.

The biggest difficulty in rescue at this moment is that the sea is windy and the waves are high. The "Yongda 99" ship cannot approach the life raft rashly to avoid collision and rollover. Moreover, there is still a drop of more than 2 meters between the freighter and the life raft.

According to the direction of the ocean current and wind direction, Xue Junfa approached slowly with years of experience and skilled boating skills, and rescued at the right time.

When they were about 20 meters away from the life raft, five crew members including Xue Junfa, Xue Zhiming, Xue Yinghong, Xue Ruiqiao, Xue Haiqiao, and Ye Zhongbi threw lifebuoys and lifelines to the crew members who fell into the sea again and again.

After more than a dozen difficult attempts, the crew on the life raft successfully caught it and tied it around their waists.

After about half an hour of life-and-death rescue, all 13 crew members in distress were successfully rescued.

Everyone immediately found clothes and quilts to keep them warm. At the same time, they cooked ginger soup, provided hot meals and hot dishes to supplement their physical strength, and stabilized the mood of the crew in distress. They were not relieved until the evening when they were handed over to the local maritime department.

"Everyone runs on the sea all year round. Helping others is helping yourself. In case of shipwreck, you will definitely do your best to rescue." Xue Junfa said in an interview that in their hometown, Qiangjiao Town, Ninghai, the maritime transportation industry is relatively developed. In July this year, the local "Yongda The 519” freighter once rescued a fisherman in the waters of Putian, Fujian.
