A German is in a coma and undergoes 30 surgeries due to a mosquito bite

Mosquito bites are very annoying and can sometimes cause diseases like dengue fever that can be fatal.

Recently, a German man, caused by mosquitoes, suffered various health problems including going into a coma and having to undergo 30 surgeries.

According to NDTV, Sebastian Rutzke, a 27-year-old resident of Roedermark, had a life-threatening experience after being bitten by an Asian tiger mosquito in the summer of 2021.

Rutschke first experienced flu-like symptoms and that was just the beginning.

Mr. Rutschke's toe was then partially amputated, he underwent thirty operations and was in a coma for four weeks.

Not only that, he also suffered from blood poisoning and had to deal with liver, kidney, heart and lung failure.

Mr. Rutschke also had to undergo a skin transplant in his thigh to remove the abscess formed in that area.

He thought his chances of survival were slim because according to a tissue sample, the virulent bacteria had eaten away about halfway up his left thigh.

Speaking about his experience to the Daily Star, Rutschke said: "I wasn't outside, the bite must have happened at home. Then it all started. I was bedridden, I could barely make it to the bathroom, I had a fever and I couldn't eat, I thought it was just passing and about to pass." "Suddenly, a huge abscess formed on my left thigh. Doctors quickly guessed it was an Asian tiger mosquito bite and called in a specialist."

The Asian tiger mosquito, also known as the jungle mosquito, is an insect that can transmit serious diseases such as Oriental encephalitis (EEE), Zika virus, West Nile virus, chikungunya, and dengue fever.
