[Explanation] The strongest cold wave this winter is coming.

From the afternoon of November 26, the cold wave weather began to enter China from Xinjiang. With the advancement of the intensity of the cold wave, most parts of China have officially turned on the "quick freezing" mode.

According to Zhang Fanghua, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, from November 28 to 30, the cold wave weather will affect the central and eastern regions of China from north to south.

[Concurrent] Zhang Fanghua, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory

During the three days from November 28th to 30th, it will mainly affect most of the central and eastern parts of our country. Most of the central and eastern parts will experience severe cooling, strong winds, sand and dust, and large-scale rain and snow from north to south. The temperature will generally drop 10-16°C, and the cumulative drop in temperature in some areas can reach more than 18°C. It is estimated that around December 1, the lowest temperature in the southern region will reach the lowest in this process, that is, the 0°C line will press south to the north of the south of the Yangtze River. the southern area of Guizhou.

[Explanation] Zhang Fanghua said that the most notable feature of this cold wave weather is the sharp drop in temperature.

The drastic drop in temperature is the most notable feature of this cold wave.

The main specific areas with strong cooling, the central and eastern parts of Inner Mongolia, the eastern part of Northwest China, North China, the central and southern parts of Northeast China, Huanghuai, Jianghuai, and the northern and western parts of South China, will have a temperature drop of 10-14 degrees Celsius, among which the central part of Inner Mongolia , eastern Shanxi, northern Hebei, eastern and southern Liaoning, eastern Jilin, most of Shandong, northern Jiangsu, most of Hunan, eastern Guizhou, northern Guangxi and other places have a temperature drop of 16-18°C, with local (cooling) above 20°C .

[Explanation] Why did this cold wave process bring about a sharp drop in temperature?

Compared with normal years, is the intensity of this cold wave abnormal?

Zhang Fanghua gave the answer.

[Concurrent] Zhang Fanghua, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory

First of all, November is in a stage of atmospheric circulation adjustment, and it is also a month when our country is relatively prone to cold waves.

Recently, with the adjustment of the atmospheric circulation in the northern hemisphere, there is a polar vortex moving southward. The polar vortex brings the cold air from the high polar region and moves southward along the northwest airflow, affecting our country and causing a sharp drop in temperature.

The other is that the temperature in the early stage was relatively high, so the cooling rate caused by the arrival of cold air was very drastic.

The intensity of this cold wave, judging from the intensity of the cold high pressure of the cold air itself, is significantly stronger than that of the same period in previous years.

[Explanation] Zhang Fanghua introduced that after this cold wave, the temperature in the northern region will gradually rise from west to east around November 30, and the temperature in the southern region will also start to rise around December 2.

[Concurrent] Zhang Fanghua, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory

The temperature in the northern region will start to rise from west to east around November 30, and the temperature in the southern region will start to rise a little later, around December 2.

We expect that around December 4, the temperature in most areas will return to a normal or slightly higher level.

According to our current data analysis, after this cold wave, the cold air that will affect our country in the next 10 days will be relatively weak.
