INSEE published a study on demographic trends in Île-de-France last Thursday.

She unveils projections for the year 2070, which reveal that the department of Seine-Saint-Denis should remain the youngest department in Metropolitan France, reports Actu Seine-Saint-Denis.

At the regional level, 22% of the population would be aged 65 and over in 2070. Aging less rapidly than at the national level.

Concerning the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, 23% of the inhabitants should be under 18 in less than 50 years, against 15% in Paris.

An increase in population

More broadly, the population of Île-de-France should increase by 300,000 inhabitants.

It would thus increase from 12.21 million in 2018 to 12.53 million in 2070. A demography which should grow until the decade 2040-2049, before gradually falling again.

In Paris, the population should even fall below the threshold of two million inhabitants between 2050 and 2059.

“Births would exceed deaths by too little to compensate for the deficit linked to net migration.

At the end of the period, the natural balance would be equivalent to around 80% of the migratory deficit”, specifies INSEE.
