There is an inherent problem of racism in the music world, according to Lizzo.

The singer, who rose to prominence through her unstoppable pop hits, such as

Juice

or

Good as Hell

, believes that simply giving certain labels to musical genres is racist.

“I think if people did some research, they would see there was 'racialized music' and pop music.

And this racialized music, it was a way of excluding black artists from the mainstream because they didn't want their children to listen to music created by people with black or brown skin, because they said that it was demonic and blah blah,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

A well-oiled machine

If she has now succeeded in establishing herself in the industry with a music which, as she explains, mixes pop with influences linked to rap, she does not forget that the industry has long reduced singers and singers in the color of their pop.

“Today we have this well-oiled pop machine, but don't forget that it has a racist origin.

But I think the coolest thing I've seen is rap and hip-hop artists going pop.

Now pop music really has rap in its DNA – rap drives the game, and I think that's really cool,” she added.

Lizzo fans will soon be able to find her in a special concert filmed by HBO and broadcast from December 31 on the American channel's streaming platform, HBO Max.
