After approval, it will become the basic basis for guiding the protection, display, utilization, monitoring and research of Beijing's central axis.

The planning clarifies the concept of the heritage area, which includes all the elements that carry the value of the heritage, as well as the necessary connection areas between the elements.

It is mainly based on the boundary of the historical city wall or wall, the centerline of the road, and the embankment line outside the river, with a total area of about 5.9 square kilometers.

In addition to the delineation of the heritage area, the planning also delineates the buffer zone of the central axis, with a total area of about 45.4 square kilometers, including areas located around the heritage area and closely related to the formation and development of Beijing’s central axis, which can effectively protect the integrity of the heritage .

Mainly based on the center line of the road and the embankment line outside the river.

The buffer zone is north to the North Moat; south to the South Third Ring Road; east to Lama Temple Street-Dongsi North Street-Dongsi South Street-Dongdan North Street-Jianguomen Inner Street-East Second Ring Road and South Moat (East Section), Beijing Shanghai Expressway Planning Road; west to Xinjiekou North Street-Xinjiekou South Street-Xisi North Street-Xisi South Street-Xidan North Street-Xuanwumen Inner Street-Xuanwumenwai Street-Caishikou Street-Kaiyang Road .

It is worth mentioning that the planning focuses on formulating protection and management measures for the landscape corridors, city skylines, historical city outlines, historical streets, and urban landmarks related to the central axis of Beijing, and released the "Beijing Central Axis Landscape Corridor and Schematic diagram of the city skyline management and control area", which clearly defines the control boundary of the landscape viewing corridor and the direction of sight of the landscape viewing corridor, defines the control boundary of the city skyline and the direction of sight of the city skyline, and also marks strategic landscape landmarks, including Bell and Drum Tower, Wanchun Pavilion, Hall of Supreme Harmony, Donghuamen, Tiananmen, Zhengyangmen, Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, Yongdingmen, etc.

  For different heritage characteristics

  Classify and formulate protective measures

The Central Axis of Beijing is a well-ordered and magnificent urban building complex composed of ancient royal palace buildings, ancient ceremonial and sacrificial buildings, ancient urban management facilities, the remains of central roads, modern public buildings and public spaces.

It is clear in the plan that according to different heritage characteristics, protection and management measures will be formulated according to classification.

For example, the Forbidden City will carry out cultural relic building repairs, city walls and courtyard walls, and Tongzi River waterfront environment improvement, etc.; Zhengyangmen Archery Tower will carry out cultural relic building repairs, tree landscape optimization, and Beijing Swift protection.

Regarding the heritage itself, the planning also proposes to protect the authenticity of the heritage and maintain the richness of the heritage features.

It is necessary to understand the heritage from the perspective of a big historical perspective, respect the whole process of historical development, protect and display the historical relics and urban development imprints formed by the central axis of Beijing and its environment in different eras, maintain the typical characteristics of the differences in each section, and fully demonstrate the characteristics of the central axis of Beijing. Multicultural charm.

Respect and protect the historical and cultural imprints of different eras and styles, carefully evaluate the state of heritage preservation, insist on minimal intervention in protection and repair, and systematically display and interpret the long history and multicultural charm of Beijing's central axis.

In addition, the planning fully considers the close interdependence between Beijing's central axis and the old city, and promotes the realization of multiple goals such as regional function optimization, improvement of people's livelihood, and environmental improvement through heritage protection, and promotes positive interactions inside and outside the heritage protection area, thereby driving the overall development of the old city.
