A man stole thousands of empty returnable bottles from a supermarket in Bremen and hoarded them in his apartment.

For weeks, three bags of PET bottles and around 20 shopping baskets have been disappearing from a secured collection point on the premises almost every day, which is why the branch manager installed video cameras, as the police in Bremen announced on Friday.

This allowed the thief to be filmed climbing over the cage with the sacks, piling the loot into shopping carts and pulling away.

On Friday night, officials placed the 39-year-old near the scene of the crime.

In the man's apartment, the police found countless bags with a total of 5,500 PET bottles.

Where the 39-year-old could have slept was questionable, as the officials reported.
