The moment a child is rescued from under the rubble more than 40 hours after the Indonesia earthquake

Rescue officials in Indonesia announced that a 6-year-old boy was pulled from the rubble two days after an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale in West Java province.

A firefighter who participated in the operation to rescue the child, "Azka", said that he was found alive yesterday morning, under the rubble of a house in the village of Nagrek in Cianjur district, more than 40 hours after the earthquake occurred on Monday, according to what was published by "Russia Today".

Officials said many of those killed in Monday's earthquake were children attending religious lessons in mosques after school.

The quake killed at least 268 people, and the National Disaster Management Agency said about 150 people were still missing in Cianjur.

More than 1,000 people were injured and 58,000 were displaced after the earthquake, which caused landslides that buried homes and people alike, according to the agency.

More than 2,300 buildings and homes were damaged, many of them reduced to rubble.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
