It's “Madame Swift in the Senate”… or almost.

After the fiasco of ticket sales for Taylor Swift's next tour, the US Congress decided to set up an antitrust committee to study the issue of the lack of competition in the world of ticketing.

In question: Ticketmaster, the giant of the sector, which failed to manage the sale of tickets for The Eras, the future world tour of the singer.

A disaster in terms of organization since many fans, who were nevertheless on the site at the time of the opening of the pre-sales, could not buy their place.

The platform has indeed exploded under the weight of requests.

Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar and her Republican colleague Mike Lee announced that the full light would be shed on the case during a hearing which will take place on a date announced later.

de facto monopoly

The two senators indicated that the American Congress was concerned about the lack of transparency in a sector where there is indeed little competition since Ticketmaster granted itself a de facto monopoly by buying up almost all of its competitors, as explained by The Economist in an article dated November 19.

“Last week, the problem of competition in ticketing markets was made painfully obvious when the Ticketmaster website let down hundreds of thousands of fans hoping to buy concert tickets.

The high fees, site disruptions and cancellations customers have experienced show how Ticketmaster's dominant position in the market means the company is under no pressure to innovate and continually improve,” said Amy Klobuchar. in a press release relayed by Variety.
