Through a program full of literary workshops, seminars and poetry evenings, the first edition of the "Literary Expression Forum" was launched yesterday at the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, organized by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, which reveals the richness of the local cultural scene, forming a point of communication between writers, intellectuals and media professionals in UAE.

Opportunities and challenges

The forum reviewed the issues of the cultural and literary sector, the opportunities it presents, and the challenges it faces, which help in advancing this vital sector.

Dubai Culture, through the forum, will witness a rich cultural season.

The forum, which lasted for two days, presents a series of literary sessions, and among the titles and issues raised by it are “What is Philosophical Writing?”, “Emirati Poetry Movement from Rooting to Extension,” and “Access to the World of Fantasy.”

As for the workshops, they focused on script writing, principles of literary criticism, and paper making.

A poetry evening was also organized, which brought together Najat Al Dhaheri, Issa Al Balushi, and Aida bin Masoud.

Emirati pens

The Acting Director of Literature Department at the Culture and Arts Authority in Dubai, Mohammed Al Habsi, told «Emirates Today»: «It is the first season of the forum, which aims primarily to collect the largest number of Emirati pens and Emirati content, that is, local literature, as the percentage of participating Emiratis reaches In the forum, speakers, authors, critics and novelists reach 90%, while 10% is for the Arab pens in the arena.

He pointed out that highlighting the Emiratis in this forum is due to the presence of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, which deals with a large segment of foreign, Arab and Indian pens, and therefore this forum will create a kind of balance.

Al-Habsi pointed out that the Literary Expression Forum will be annually, and will focus on several areas, including philosophy, poetry, scenario, drama, criticism, research and studies, as it seeks to gather the largest number of literary fields.

He noted that it hosts experts in the literary field, especially those who present discussion sessions and dialogue seminars, but in return it gives the opportunity for emerging writers to participate, with the aim of listening to their aspirations and aspirations and what they expect from the literary sector arena, and what the literary arena expects from them as well.

He explained that recommendations will be made. The aim of this brainstorming, which will be organized with young people, is to come up with how to deal with emerging pens, how to present their content, and the tools that display them.

Al Habsi emphasized that Dubai Culture is concerned with highlighting the literary content of creative and talented people, and not only by highlighting pens and content, but rather by creating a program to deliver pens to universality, creating what contributes to soft power in the country, and what serves the orange economy.

He pointed out that when events shed light on prominent names in the cultural fields, whether literary, theatrical, or otherwise, they create a cultural reputation, and introduce society, residents, tourists, and specialists, and thus this has many positive effects in the long run.

Regarding the overlap between the virtual and the real world in all aspects of life, including literary ones, Al-Habsi indicated that it has become inevitable, because technology will be the main tools that drive the shape of their lives for new generations, and for this it must be in line with it.

He explained that these modern means facilitate dissemination, raising the question about the entitlement of pens and the content they provide for the dissemination they will take from these tools.

Literary salon with metaverse technology

The founder of Dar Kuttab, Jamal Al-Shehhi, launched during the opening ceremony of the Literary Expression Forum the first literary salon using metaverse technology. To keep pace with what is happening in the world in terms of technological development.

He pointed out that the salon will host a group of periodic activities, and the public will be able to attend book signing parties and seminars, virtually, and this step comes within the framework of adapting to technology in order to bring distances closer to the new generation, and will be an addition to what the current cultural scene holds.

Al-Shehhi likened these movements keeping pace with technology to the beginning of the emergence of the e-book, explaining that the e-book did not cancel the paper book, but on the contrary it was a good addition, noting that this technology will attract the young generation, especially since it has its own tools.
