While TF1 will broadcast part of the World Cup matches in Qatar, the format and broadcast of its 8 p.m. news will change, without disappearing.

If it will be shorter, "we are not going to change the nature and the genetic code of this newspaper", insisted the presenter Gilles Bouleau at the microphone of Europe 1.

Due to the World Cup, there will no longer be an 8 p.m. newscast from this Monday evening on TF1, which will broadcast part of the matches.

The news does not disappear completely, because there will still be a news at 7:15 p.m.

The schedule changes and so does the name: during the credits, you will no longer see "Le 8pm" but "Le Journal".

"What makes our strength and the identity of this newspaper will not be changed in any way"

The JT will also last less.

So how do you shorten a newspaper?

What subjects are privileged in these cases by TF1?

Europe 1 asked presenter Gilles Bouleau.

"The obvious is that we cannot break the contract that unites us to our viewers, which is to be a news newspaper. Every day, whatever happens, we tell them what it happened the last 24 hours in France and in the world. We are not going to change the nature and the genetic code of this diary, even if it is shorter. There will undoubtedly be fewer subjects of escape , but the rest, which is our strength and the identity of this newspaper, such as Ukraine, the economy, health …, will not be changed in any way”, insisted the presenter of 8 p.m.

Added to this is the problem of the audience.

The viewers will inevitably be fewer at 7:15 p.m. in front of the television.

But that doesn't seem to worry Gilles Bouleau, who sees this World Cup period as a parenthesis.

Nevertheless, this change of schedule comes as the newspaper is just emerging from a complicated period.

For two months, audiences were strongly impacted by the cut in the broadcast of TF1 via Canal +.

France 2 even regularly beat TF1.

Gilles Bouleau "saddened" by the dispute between TF1 and Canal +

But since an agreement between Canal+ and TF1 was reached, broadcasting has been restored and good audiences are back.

They were even excellent when Didier Deschamps unveiled the list of the Blues live there.

Sign that viewers have returned.

If Gilles Bouleau told Europe 1 that he was not afraid that habits had time to change, he did not live this period very well.

"I was a bit saddened by the fact that the efforts made and the risks taken by this editorial staff could not be duly rewarded, because 2.5 million people could not watch TF1 at all. When our reporters were in Afghanistan or Ukraine , I had a twinge in my heart as a journalist, saying to myself 'it's more than a shame that loyal viewers for years can't see the work of these journalists'. They deserved better than to be taken in this dispute", underlined Gilles Bouleau at the microphone of Europe 1.
