won a “Thea Award” which corresponds to the prize for the best attraction in the world.

  • "The choice was made from among 300 competing candidates including giant theme parks from all over the world" underlines the amusement park.

  • This attraction inaugurated in July, is part of a vast investment plan of 300 million euros to modernize the park.

The attraction, opened last July, already had six European awards on its list.

Tornado Hunters

has just won a seventh, and not the least, since the “Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement” is neither more nor less than the prize for the best attraction in the world.

The announcement was made on the night of November 15 to 16, from the IAAPA Attraction show in Orlando (Florida).

“It is a jury of professionals, gathered within the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), which has chosen to reward both the artistic and technical excellence and the innovation of this attraction, indicates Futuroscope in a press release.

The choice was made from among 300 competing candidates including theme park giants from all over the world.

Tornado Chasers

is the last of the Futuroscope attractions.

Visitors face a tornado, which threatens to ravage the city of Poitiers and have the task of destroying it using an overpowered probe, the Tromb X. Sitting aboard a dynamic 120-seat platform surrounded by the largest cylindrical LED screen in Europe (470m2), visitors are caught up in a veritable whirlwind that reaches 27 km/h, powered by forty-one fans.

, the general manager of Futuroscope, Rodolphe Bouin, does not hide his pride.

“With 21 million euros, this is the biggest investment that Futuroscope has ever made in terms of attraction, and we immediately saw that it was a great success with the public.

However, we were in competition with attractions much more expensive than that, especially those from Chinese parks.

A second park, Aquascope, by 2024

“It's an attraction in the DNA of Futuroscope, continues the general manager, who uses state-of-the-art technological processes with a scientific theme that corresponds to our brand, and with internal teams who did the assembly.

The project for this attraction dates back to 2018. “It was mainly the characters, the tornado chasers, who interested us.

Tornado Hunters

is part of a vast 300 million euro investment plan by Futuroscope.

“With our first hotel themed on space, also inaugurated in July, these are our first two big stones of this plan.

We will have another attraction within a fortnight on the theme of superheroes, then a second themed hotel in July on the theme of ecology.

A second park, Aquascope on the theme of water, must also be delivered by July 1, 2024. We want to reinvent the water park: it will include classic ingredients - slides, wave pools... - but also water innovation, with image, special effects…”

All these investments should increase attendance at the park by 500,000 visits per year, and thus increase it from 1.9 million to 2.4 million people.

“But the question of average expenses is just as important, emphasizes Rodolphe Bouin, to increase our turnover from 120 million euros to 150 million euros.
