Catherine II had her great love, Prince Grigory Potemkin, buried in the Catherine Cathedral in Kherson in 1791. His remains have rested there for 231 years, until now.

After the Russian troops withdrew from the Kherson region, it is clear that they also took Potemkin's remains with them.

- Potemkin has been in the cathedral during two world wars.

Neither Nazis, Fascists nor Communists have touched him.

He is the founder of our city.

He even survived the revolution, says Andriy in the Catherine Cathedral in Kherson.

Potemkin's remains are said to have been moved to Russian territory, something that is confirmed by the Russian military.

- We have moved the remains of Prince Potemkin together with a statue of him to the other side of the Dnipro River, says Russian appointed leader Vladimir Saldo to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

Grigory Potemkin has an important role in both Russian and Ukrainian history.

He founded, among other things, the cities of Kherson, Odessa, and Sevastopol.
