[Explanation] The art of gourd pyrography, also known as heat painting gourd and fire brush painting gourd, is a traditional arts and crafts with Chinese characteristics.

In Yinchuan City, Ningxia, there is an old man of seventy years of age who not only pyrographs gourds, but also carves them. In his studio, there are dolls, vases, tea sets, and a variety of works of art that are amazing.

[Explanation] Qiu Zhaoyu has been doing gourd pyrography for 25 years since 1997, and he has become attached to gourds since he was a child. Doing gourd pyrography is not only a love for traditional culture, but also a longing for his hometown.

I mainly liked gourds when I was young, and I planted gourds with my grandmother in my hometown.

After planting, it is not for painting or baking, but for making (making) a tool, making (making) a water scoop, a noodle scoop, that's all.

After joining the work, in (19)97, I accidentally (in) discovered a newspaper that had baked (painted) gourds, so after I found a gourd, I baked (painted) the gourd by myself, and I have been doing it until now. .

[Explanation] On the wall of Qiu Zhaoyu's studio, gourds are hung high next to each other, with different shapes and sizes.

In Qiu Zhaoyu's view, the gourds selected for gourd pyrography are not unique, and any gourd is a "plastic talent" as long as it is designed, carved, and pyrographed.

I generally do not choose gourds for this work, no matter what kind of gourd comes to me, I design it according to the shape of the gourd.

For example, this gourd is a "rough and flat" gourd, but it is not rotten. Based on the shape of this gourd, I made this "Fu Lu Shou", and after it was made, it was very popular and everyone liked it.

[Explanation] With the development of the times, gourd pyrography has also undergone many changes.

From single-ended soldering to double-ended soldering on tools, from formal drawing and writing to today's carving and splicing, more and more "playing methods" have been developed and researched by craftsmen.

I used to make this gourd mainly by roasting and writing. Today, there are various methods.

For example, the one I took is made of pure gourd, which is very popular.

Anyway, from the development of gourd (pyrograph) to today, a hundred flowers are really blooming, and there are various methods.

[Explanation] Today, Qiu Zhaoyu's works have won many awards, and he is also passionate about gourd pyrography.

He believes that as an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage, the "hard" craftsmanship is the last word. Only when the works can withstand scrutiny can the gourd pyrography be better passed on.

Another non-heritage inheritance requires one (condition), you have to keep improving in all aspects of workmanship, so that it can be passed on and carried forward.
