Elizabeth Debicki struggled to play Diana in "The Crown"

Elizabeth Debicki has worked hard to best embody Lady Diana.

The actress, who is at the heart of the new season of

, hadn't really thought about her way of interpreting the princess of hearts before being chosen for the series-star of Netflix.

It therefore arrived without a priori and was based on the scripts of Peter Morgan, the creator of the program.

“I came to this character with a fairly blank canvas.

I'm Australian and was very young during this time in history so I had no lived memories of it.

What I learned, I learned through Peter's interpretation and then the research records department which helps build a very solid foundation of actual historical events.

Then ultimately you have to throw it all away and do the scene,” she explained in an interview for

But the hardest moment for the actress, in her "learning" of the character, was when she had to recreate the moment Diana Spencer gave herself up to journalist Andrew Morton for her autobiography

.

The latter had indeed recorded the answers of the ex-wife of the then Prince Charles on audio cassettes.

A moment intense in emotion, which it was necessary to transcribe as well as possible.

“It was a fascinating and complex task.

It's extremely unusual to have this portal suddenly open that allows you to access this kind of reality, and this emotional truth, of your character, and then find ways to reinterpret it as an actor.

I found it to be a really rich experience and a real challenge too.

I watched this episode recently, and I feel like the way Jess Hobbs directed it brings all the pieces together in a really satisfying way,” Elizabeth Debicki shared.
